The words of the Prophets aren’t just written on the subway walls, they also appear on a wall at the United Nations compound. The inscription is on what is known as the Isaiah Wall located on the west side of First Avenue at 43rd Street, a popular gathering spot for demonstrators, across the street from the General Assembly Building.
The words chiseled into the granite are a best-known quotation from the Book of Isaiah. The inscription, in letters eight inches high, was etched into the granite around 1950 at about the same time that the United Nations complex was built.
Journalist David Horowitz, who witnessed the construction of both, is seen here posing in front of the Isaiah Wall.
