There is a weekly holiday that is celebrated every Friday at sunset: it is called Shabbat, which means “Sabbath.” Every Jew respects the sixth day of the week, which reminds them of their spiritual purpose in life.
The celebration of Shabbat is a tradition that has its roots in the ancient past. Its essential attributes are a table covered with a tablecloth, two lighted candles, challah (traditional bread in the shape of a braided braid), and kosher wine.
At our school, every Friday after school, we hold a preliminary meeting of Shabbat, Kabbalat Shabbat, where we recite the week’s chapter.
