Passing the Blessing – Genesis 27:1-28:8

In this class Ross covers Genesis 27:1-28:8 in his ongoing teaching series based upon the Ancient Triennial Torah Reading cycle. In our story, Isaac intends to pass his blessing to Esau, his eldest son. Rebekah hears of the plan and quickly comes up with a plan whereby Jacob, the younger, posed as Esau will receive the blessing. The plan works, but what are we supposed to think about the way Jacob is blessed instead of Esau. The plot of the story presents many questions. Did Rebekah do the right thing? Should we feel sorry for Esau? And what about the aged and blind Isaac? Was this acceptable? Jacob now has the birthright and the blessing, both achieved by questionable methods. In this teaching, Ross attempts to answer these and other questions from a broader view of the eternal plan.
