A Zionist Trio

Nan Reilly met Menachem Begin years before she met David Horowitz. Irish immigrant Reilly was an ardent supporter and worked for the pro-Irgun “American Committee for a Free Israel” where she met and befriended the young Irgun leader Menachem Begin. Nan possessed a fierce loyalty to the Jewish people and became an outspoken advocate of an independent State of Israel and an opponent of all forms of anti-Semitism.
David Horowitz and Nan Reilly met at a New Year’s Eve party in Greenwich Village in 1950 and married a year later.
Menachem Begin’s storied career took him from commander of the Irgun Jewish underground movement to a successful political career in which he became the sixth Prime Minister of the State of Israel in 1977. He was the co-recipient of the 1978 Nobel Peace Prize.
Journalist David Horowitz and wife Nan are seen here greeting a young Menachem Begin during an early 1950’s visit to New York for a speaking engagement.
